Meditation is concentrated attention. The word "meditation" is derived from the Latin word "meditari", which means "to think" or "to ponder". Meditation encompasses numerous traditional and modern methods from different cultures that can be used to achieve relaxation.

These include, for example, Far Eastern techniques such as yoga , Qi Gong and Zen meditation as well as Western approaches to meditation, including autogenic training or progressive muscle relaxation .
